Communication is great when it works

Cell coverage is bad lately and internet for some reason is also unusable at times.  Who knew we were in the middle of a dead zone.  I guess there are pros and cons to rural life and though annoying at times, the pro list is quite a bit longer than the con.

And so, we just keep going on.

People tend to want to say "Oh, you should hurry and get that yard clean before fall" or "You know, you should get this project done sooner rather than later."  I know they are well meaning, but something I have begun to accept which has made my life infinitely easier is this.

I am perfectly capable of setting my own priorities.  I know my limits and my skill sets and can work within them.  No amount of panic will help, and getting overwhelmed leads to paralysis.
Therefore, each day I will do what I can; enjoy what I am doing and if it doesn't get done today, then it will get done tomorrow.  If it doesn't get done this year, it will get done next. 


Anyway, instead of trying to write a lot and then have it disappear into no where I am just going to try to upload some photos and maybe a video link and then you can see what spring is like and why the pro list requires a couple more sheets of paper than the cons.

The wild crocus have started to bloom almost 2-3 weeks late.

Unsure which raptor this is.  I don't really know the names of any of them, and for some reason though they fascinate me, they are all too similar for me to be interested in trying to recognize them beyond knowing they are hawks, eagles or scavengers.

This was one of those weeks in May when we got dumped on, but it had started to warm enough that Trippy could begin her daily ice cold baths and Kira could make up silly games.  For some reason, she was pretending the water was lava and walking on the tree trunks, even though she is an amazing swimmer and loves the cold.  Can only be a game with her.

There is something about a little colour in the monotone winter.

The song birds return to Saskatchewan

Despite the fact that these little critters were eating from the feeders, they are indeed, NOT SONGBIRDS!

You know, sometimes getting breakfast is such a huge task that you just get tired and want to eat lying down, with your face right in it.

Had a number of these, all male in early May and now the females have started to show up. They are really uninteresting as far as colour and markings.

These two seemed to be posing and quite unafraid, so I said "Say Cheep!" and took their pics.

Also a horde of white crowned sparrows coming back.  I think they must go quite a bit further north as we see them early in spring and then late in fall.

This I call "Things you can't do in the city #205."  Dar was practicing his swing for his sibling retreat to BC in May.  We even have a sand and water trap!

There was a flock of swans. Ho hum

Darwin built these three raised beds for me this weekend and Sue helped fill them.  I hope today I will be able to mix in some peat, compost and perlite and probably plant my stuff!

Google updated their earth maps ad this one sure does show the difference from the previous map.  Everything has sure grown in.  You can still see the pool and the bus from this one, and the barn still has all it's roof.

Silly kitty.  No idea why kitties have to find the strangest places to sleep.  I only wish I could be as comfortable in my bed as this kitty is in a planted of dirt.

Crocus finally blooming a couple weeks late.

Sue and Kylie and I went for a trip to the greenhouse and then over to Little Red River park to look for crocus.  It was a bit chilly but nice to see the greenhouse with all the pretty flowers and such.

We set up a Trail Cam on one part of our acreage and caught this cute little fox checking out the house,  I've seen him a number of times so maybe he has a den somewhere near

Why did the bittern cross the road?  it was the chickens day off.

This bittern was jsut walking across the road - such neat birds.  I got out of the truck and just watched it for a while and then I got too close so it prepared to take flight here.

Caught this deer as well.  Have had a number of them as well, some during the day.

Ok I guess that's all from me now.  Winter is, I hope, officially over and spring looks to be here at last.  Should be a fun, busy and productive season and we have a lot to accomplish before fall.  Looking forward to it all for sure!
